Hair Tips

Sealing the Weft
Wefts are the basis of hair extensions. Sealing your wefts is guaranteed to be the best way to limit your hair from shedding. Sealing simply refers to reinforcing the hair extensions wefts with glue to eradicable shedding altogether. By sealing the wefts as soon as you receive the extensions, you safeguard the weave against excess shedding making them last longer. Even if you meant to get your hands on extensions that have reinforced , it is still good to get into the habit of sealing the wefts as soon as you get the hair to avoid any unnecessary shedding. Keep in mind, shedding is normal. Sealing wefts is simply a method used to limit the amount of shedding.

Choosing the Right Shampoo
Choosing the right shampoo is a vital skill. A wrong shampoo can lead to damaged hair that may take months to sort. To make an informed choice, you need to know your scalp type, hair type, and be familiar with ingredients found in most shampoo that you should avoid. Always opt for alcohol and sulfate free shampoo. Sulfate is a harsh chemical found in most shampoo that if used on any type of hair, natural hair and/or hair extensions, can strip your hair of its moisture, leaving your hair dry. All sulfates should be avoid, with the two main types of sulfates being Ammonium Laurygl and Sodium Lauryl.

Shampooing
When Shampooing, place your hands on the inside of the cap and use a wide tooth comb to get out any tangle there may be in the wig. When washing, use lukewarm to cold water. Use of hot water can dry out your hair. Pour shampoo into the palm of your hands and apply to the hair. Be sure to rinse out the shampoo thoroughly from the hair to avoid any buildup further down the line.

Choosing the Right Conditioner
Choosing the right conditioner is as vital as choosing the right shampoo. Dryness can be challenging and it is important to keep your hair moisturized to keep your hair soft and shiny to prevent damage. Always keep in mind, it is best to apply shampoo only to the roots or scalp and apply conditioner only from the middle to the ends of your hair. Gently work the conditioner into your hair and leave on for 5-10 minutes. If your hair is prone to tangles, be sure to use a wide tooth comb to comb the hair while the conditioner is still in it; always start from the bottom and move your way up. Finalize your conditioning process by rinsing your hair with lukewarm water.

Drying the Hair
Using a hairdryer to dry your hair too often can cause it to become dry and brittle. To keep your hair healthy, it is best practice to use a towel squeeze method in conjunction with air drying for the best result. If you treat your hair well, your hair will stay strong, beautiful and vibrant.

Styling
After washing and conditioning apply a leave in conditioner and/or spray. Use this product to freshen the hair between washes. Leave in conditioner and/or spray is important as it will keep the hair moisturized and healthy. Alight weight olin on the hair so that it will not dry out is okay as well.

When Washing is Recommended
Washing your hair is recommended immediately after swimming, a day at the spa, intense workout etc. Hair will typically become tangled when dirt and sweat accumulate. Too much leave in conditioner and other hair care products can also create a build up on the hair causing it to tangle faster. Use a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup.

Hair Curling and Ironing
In addition to continuous moisture, a quality styling serum and/or heat protectant should be used to calm frizz, seal in moisture and add shine. When applying heat to your hair, ALWAYS use a quality heat protectant. Always treat your extensions as if it were your own. Without the proper use of a quality heat protectant, extensions can and will become damaged by excessive heat. If this occurs, the hair will lose its natural pattern and/or may have damaged/dry or brittle ends. P.S. Heat damage CANNOT be reversed!

Dying Hair
When choosing the right hair dye be sure to locate whether the dye is Semi permanent or Permanent. Semiperm often are ammonia free and are less damaging to the hair whereas permanent hair dye carries more chemicals and is more damaging. Semi permanent is temporary and will eventually fade to a dull version of the color unless you dye the hair again 3-6 months later whereas permanent hair dye is a longer lasting option.Recommended is Revlon Colorsilk Dye. Deep conditioning the hair post dye is very important as it will protect the hair from becoming dry, restores moisture and keeps the hair healthy. Low quality hair dye products will damage the hair. Pay attention to the processing time of each dye and follow the instructions provided in the dye box for the best result. If you do not know how to color hair, DO NOT experience using your hair extensions. Please consult with a professional.

Measuring Hair Extensions
Our hair is true to length, every bundle is measured before shipped. Hair should be measured when it is stretched straight instead of wavy. When measuring hair, use 2 hands to pull from opposing sides, stretching the hair first then measuring WHILE hair is stretched.

Itchy Scalp?
Your scalp may get itchy at times while wearing hair extensions. If so, you can fill a spray bottle with Sea Breeze Astringent and spray directly on the scalp. Try to avoid spraying your hair extensions as the smell is quite strong. Sea breeze Astringent is safe for your scalp and will stop the itch on contact. It is recommended to co wash your hair after or simply allow it to air dry. Apple cider vinegar is naturally highly in acetic acid and has a PH level which is close to that of human hair. Regularly ringing with this vinegar can help bring your scalp and hair to its ideal acidity, especially if you have oily hair. Apple cider vinegar can also be applied directly to the scalp in a spray and/or squeeze bottle.

Hair Do’s

  • Shampoo at least once a week
  • When you wash the hair, wash the hair will COLD water before you wear it
  • Let the condition sit on the hair 5-10 minutes to allow for hair to absorb moisture
  • Comb through with wide tooth comb, starting with the ends working your way up toward your scalp
  • Blot out excess water with towel and allow hair to air dry
  • Comb curly hair gently with your fingers from top to end, DO NOT brush

Hair Don’ts

  • Blow dry hair as it can dry the hair and leave it brittle and prone to shedding more
  • Cut wefts when installing hair; without proper process, it will lead to shedding more
  • Use alcohol/sulfate based products when choosing the right shampoo

Air Dry

  1. Blot your hair dry with a microfiber or t-shirt to remove excess moisture
  2. Apply a leave in conditioner
  3. Keep hand out of your hair extensions while is it air drying, as this can lead to frizz

Diffuse (Curly Hair)For some curls, it can take hours for the hair to air dry, so one way to speed up the process is by using a diffuser attachment to your blow dryer.

  1. Style your hair in the direction you would like it to be
  2. Use the medium setting on you hair dryer
  3. Hang your head upside down for maximum volume
  4. Scoop the hair up, scrunching the hair up to your scalp with the diffuser

Blow Dry (Not suggested)

  1. Let your hair dry naturally till it is about 70-80% dry
  2. Use the cool setting on your blow dryer. If your blow dryer doesn’t have a cool setting, use the medium setting.
  3. Blow dry your hair, making sure to keep the dryer a good six inches away. THe closure the heat is to your hair, the more likely your hair will be damaged by it.
